What is Indiana Forest Products Community?
  • It is a collaborative effort between key institutions in industry, associations, IN government, and academia

  • It is a web portal with comprehensive information (more than a directory) about forest products industry in IN

  • It facilitates communication between member companies and associations

  • It contains knowledgebase of various aspects of wood and wood products (e.g. types of trees, types wood products, manufacturing techniques, etc.)

  • It facilitates buying and selling of wood products between the members

Vision of Indiana Forest Products Community

  • Shape the IN forest industry into a thriving industry

  • Promote Made in Indiana products and services

  • Facilitate in bringing the industry together to prepare them against foreign competition

  • Help in removing redundancies in manufacturing processes and transportation by encouraging synergies

  • Provide a level playing field for all companies (esp. secondary manufacturers) by dispersion of free information

  • Facilitate exhibiting, selling, and buying of forest products

  • Educate companies the advantages (esp. $$$) of being an active member of the web communit

Purdue University's Role

  • Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University in collaboration with Center for Advanced Manufacturing (both not for profit enterprises) aim to build the Indiana Forest Products Community to facilitate the in building a competitive Indiana Forest Products Industry. By providing an exclusive forum for Indiana Forest Products related industries (based out of Indiana) the community aims at providing all the resources necessary to build a level playing field for Indiana businesses. The idea was conceived by academics at Purdue University and is supported by many sponsors and partners including - IHLA, IDNR, IN State Government, Louisiana State University, Jasper County, etc
